The latest outbreak of bird flu, the seventh in the region in 11 years, has already resulted in the death of around 55,000 birds, with more set to be culled as part of preventive measures. A decade ago, 10-15 lakh ducks were reared in the region annually, which has fallen to around three lakh now and is likely to decline further, say farmers' forums
